Google Scholar is telling me that I’m not in compliance with OA mandates! What should I do?
Answer
Some researchers are getting notices in Google Scholar that they are not in compliance with public access requirements and should upload copies of their articles to Google. WE RECOMMEND IGNORING THIS FOR NOW. Google is not authorized by any of the funding agencies to verify compliance with any federal mandates and their algorithm often misses papers submitted to open repositories in compliance with the regulations. There are also potential copyright issues with uploading copies of your articles to Google—possibly other legal issues as well. We will develop guidance not just for working with Google, but for fully and appropriately complying with all federal public access mandates.
