How do I choose a database to use for my research?

Answer

Different databases contain information about different subjects or contain different kinds of research content (ex: journal articles, images, videos, etc...). You should choose a database based on the subject of your research topic or the type of content you are looking for.

There are three different filters you can use on the A-Z list of databases to help you find just the right databases:

  1. Subject: Use this to select databases related to your specific subject area.
  2. Database Type: Use this to select the type of content you re looking for (as described above).
  3. Vendor/Provider: Use this to select only Open Access (OA) resources, or resources published by a specific vendor, such as EBSCO.

Open Access resources are freely accessible to all users. Because of this, they are an important resource for Illinois Tech alumnae or those not affiliated with the university.
